BOLSA | CAMERA BAG

Developing a low volume soft good with a high enough profit margin that would enable it to be manufactured in the USA.

Inspiration & Objective

Following projected future trends within nostalgia, this bag aimed to fulfill the need for a stylish camera bag that went beyond functionality. Its objective to be a statement piece accessory for the nostalgic photographer.

Refined Design Brief

  • Create an efficient and profitable low volume manufactured product. Having made sure that the design process, development stages, and overall manufacturing process would allow said product to be scaled from 1 item into a 100 or 1000 efficiently.

  • A camera bag was the product chosen to be designed, developed, and manufactured as a small run.

Target User:

  • Age 20-30, Earns $33-$70k, recent college graduate, entry-level job position, a commuter to a bustling city, and enjoys travel.

  • Utility/Efficiency: giving the user the most out of what they buy to save money.

  • Appearance: Provides function while showing a modern, space-efficient, gender-neutral design

Materials

The final material selection included a high polished metal clip, polyester textile with a waterproof lining, polyester thread, and white zipper.

Research & Testing

The quality of these prototypes lacked a high standard of finish due in part to the various pieces and the overall time it took to cut and assemble each bag. This also demonstrated the flaws in material selection and the need to rethink specific details.

User Testing

These next mock-ups are an exploration of material combination, zipper and pocket placements, as well as clip placement. Several stitches unraveled and came undone as a result of the several steps required to stitch.
